Green Real Estate Jobs

Look into becoming a Real Estate agent. I know what you’re going to say. The real Estate market is the worst place to be right now. Well look at it this way, the Real Estate market will rebound and there has been a lot of agents that have gotten out of the game in the last few years. So why not be one of the agents that strikes it big when the market turns around. First you need to do some research of getting you Real Estate license in your state. You can find some great information at http://www.realestateswing.com/usa/real-estate-school .

1. Get your license there are a ton of schooling options available. You can even do it online. And it’s inexpensive as well as quick.

2. Start doing some research in your home town. Call around to some of the Real Estate companies and ask what it takes to work out of their office. Some charge desk fee’s while others require monthly goals to be meet.

3. Start your own blog as soon as possible taking about your local Real Estate. Wright posts about what you lean in school. This will eventually help you gain leads in the long term as well as show brokers your value when your finding a office to work out of. You can find free word press Real Estate Themes at: http://www.realestateswing.com/wordpress/ .

4. Start networking with friends and family. This can bring you a lot of work due to all the questions you’ll be getting about Real Estate.

Becoming a Real Estate Agent is truly a green job. Most your work is done on the computer and the resources required is minimal. Not to mention Eco friendly homes are selling like hot cakes right now.

The world of big business is making daily headlines by "going green" after discovering that what’s good for the planet is also proving good for business.

IBM recently announced "Project Big Green," a $1 billion initiative to reduce energy consumption by offering new lines of energy-efficient IT products.

Wal-Mart is adding solar power to more than 20 stores.

PepsiCo is buying renewable energy certificates to offset its carbon footprint. Even major banks and energy firms are being asked by shareholders to prove that they, too, are going green.

It’s not just the biggest businesses that are attracting new customers and shareholders and reaping huge profits by "going green." Small businesses also are growing eco-profits by embracing surprisingly inexpensive strategies to add value to their products, services and brand.

Consider these innovative examples:

- Bob Smith of Mad River Brewing Company in Blue Lake, California, has attracted positive publicity (and new customers) by promoting his efforts to reduce his small firm’s waste output and take other environmentally conscious steps. In turn, he has received welcome positive publicity from the press. "What PR budget? That is our PR budget," he told the Albuquerque Tribune about "going green" to market his business.

- In Florida, Natalie Kelly formed Home Therapy Cleaning Services, which uses only nontoxic, all-natural cleaning products for her home cleaning business. She used to sell aromatherapy candles from her home, she told the St. Petersburg Times, but today uses an aromatherapy baking soda blend to freshen carpets.

Here’s what you can do:

- Two inexpensive ways any small business or solo entrepreneur can go green are to change light bulbs to energy-efficient bulbs and use biodegradable cleaning products.

- With that done, tell your customers and the media about these simple ways to go green. You will have just earned instant credibility as a green business, and also as a media resource for simple, effective ways to "go green."

- Many communities online and offline are forming networks to exchange energy-saving ideas for home and business. Form your own energy network, enlisting neighborhood businesses that will welcome another opportunity to show they’re going green, too. The plus for you is that you will have just positioned yourself and your business as a community environmental leader.

- Copy what the New York Times called "Phase 2" of the corporate response to global warming. Partner with an environmental group. Travelocity invites customers to donate an extra $10 to $40, which goes to the Conservation Fund to plant trees to offset the carbon used by a client to take a trip. Whole Foods invites customers to buy a $5 "wind power card" that goes to Renewable Choice Energy to build wind farms. What local environmental group can you partner with to promote on your Web site (and vice versa), to set aside a day that a percentage of profits will go to that organization or to make their fliers available at your business?

- Make use of readily available, free information to hand out with your business literature or to make available in your office. For example, create a one-page flier on your letterhead inviting clients to calculate their own carbon footprint by visiting http://multimedia.wri.org/safeclimate_calculator.cfm.

- Go deeper green! Attend a "green" conference in your community or region, and promote your attendance. (Go to Google.com and type in "green" and "conference" and your area to find out when and where they are scheduled.) Write a "green" article on simple ways you are going green and submit it to one of the dozens of "green" Web sites and blogs that invite reader contributions. It’s a great way to market your smart ideas and your business!

Would your current job skills be useful in your next job? Many people are left wondering this question as they see many of their peers lose their current positions and are unable to find new jobs. It is possible that there is a lack of demand in their particular field. However, it is also possible that they are not well equipped for any other jobs because they lack the common job skills. Do not wait for the bad news. Make sure you have these transferable job skills in your resume.

Writing skills - When's the last time you wrote an essay or an article? If it has been forever, then you need to create something substantial for your resume. Write an article about your industry and post it on well received and viewed forum like EzineArticles. This can become something you use as a reference.

Sales - If you sold an exceptional number of products and services in a particular quarter or year, put that on your job skills. This skill would be very noticeable for any employer facing a slump in sales. Even if the products are not directly related to your industry, the job skill will still be favorable.

Customer service - Do you talk on the phone and deal with customer complaints? Explain how you resolved a customer's concern by providing the right incentives or calming their nerves. Getting detailed is a good thing as long as the tactics were ethical.

Interpersonal skills - If you worked in a group and had to get others to work with you using your interpersonal skills, then write down the project and your role in the matter. Having this skill will result in better professional results in formal and casual settings. It translates into, "the guy everyone gets along with."

Communications skills - The ability to convey a technical message into layman terms is useful in any field. This is especially important for presentations when you have to pitch an idea in order to get a sale.

Prepare yourself for the bad economy before the worse hits. The more transferable job skills you have, the less you will have to worry about being inexperienced or out of a job.

Green opportunity: Are green products recession-proof ?

Author: J.Luc Marcoux

During a recession consumers become more sensitive to price as compared to other product attributes such as quality or brand. Consumers are trying to stretch their dollars and become more concerned about what they can afford across all product categories from laundry detergent and frozen pizza to clothing and furniture. A number of studies and articles and have shown most consumers change their purchasing behavior during a recession; not only the ones temporarily unemployed and laid-off. Green products seem to defy this trend and may be somewhat recession-proof. A number of reports in recent days from Forrester Research, the Carbon Trust Standard and IRI have shown environmental considerations remaining important even during a recession.

Environmentally conscious consumers seem to remain green even during hard times. They are willing to pay more for green and ethically produced products and they are brand loyal to companies with genuine environmental benefits. The market for green products was estimated at $209 billion in 2008. This represents an opportunity for green marketers as green consumers are truly distinct from mass consumers. Green consumers are willing to pay more or stick to brands that serve their ethical values and meet their needs for a more sustainable environment. Some authors such as J. Ottman suggest that products should not be sold on their green-ness alone. Obviously sub-par or lower quality products sold at a premium because they are labeled green will not fool consumers. However, these studies indicate that consumers with a positive perception of green products will continue buying them in harder economic conditions and will not compromise.

According to J.Ottman the five rules for green product marketing are:

1. Consumers must be aware of and concerned about the issues that your product professes to address. Don’t sell a green features nobody cares about.

2. They have to feel that they’ll make a difference by using your product. Are your eco-friendly light bulbs saving them $1.50 per year in electricity?

3. They have to believe your claims. Are you claiming to save the earth with your laundry detergent?

4. The product has to work. Even if your detergent is saving the earth it also has to remove stains!

5. If you’re charging a premium, the consumer has to feel that it’s worth it. Greenwashing is a no no. Show real green benefits.

There is a real opportunity for entrepreneurs to develop and market eco-friendly and green products given the size and growth of this market. We can think of a number of green products services that contribute to the environment and meet a genuine need for environmentally conscious consumers. There may be a way to eco-innovate our way out of this recession. Green jobs and opportunities are waiting. This economic crisis will end in a few months but the climate crisis will remain for decades to come and so will the opportunities for a better, cleaner environment.

"Green" Jobs Offer a Promising Outlook in New York State

Author: Tricia Folliero

Whether you are trying to give career advice to upcoming graduates deciding on a career direction or advising a professional who is recently unemployed, Green jobs or sustainable energy careers are a promising path to take.

New York State is participating in a National Governor's Association Policy Academy on State Sector Strategies to collaborate with state leaders in an attempt to advance sector strategies and workforce development. Green jobs and renewable resources were listed as one of the three priority sectors which will be addressed-the other two being healthcare and advanced manufacturing. Their goal is to create employment opportunities for low-wage and high-wage sectors in these areas.

To achieve these goals, the NYS Department of Labor, in collaboration with the New York State Education Department, State University of New York and City University of New York, is immediately undertaking an inventory of existing workforce training programs and implementing recommendations to achieve the State's clean energy goals. The priority clean energy sectors to be focused on are Solar Energy, which consists of Photovoltaic and Solar Thermal; Wind Energy for both on-shore and off-shore applications; and Renewable Fuels, which includes both bio fuels and improved energy efficiency (weatherization).

In addition to the major job boards, some web sites that are becoming popular in searching for "green" careers are idealist.org, justmeans.com, stopdodo.com, greencareers.com (an offshoot of Monster.com), greendreamjobs.com and greenbiz.com.

The main thing to do when pursuing a "green job" is to first determine what area of this broad category would be of most interest to you -- such as Ecotourism, green building architecture, waste management, sustainable energy, or green sustainable agriculture. Then focus in on the companies in your geographic area that are in a growth mode. By networking with different "green" industries, you will eventually find one that matches your talents. You will then be able to start a career in an industry you can feel great about. Hopefully, with continuing support from New York State, your career will be able to grow apace with the phenomenal growth projected for this vital, new business sector.

About the Author:

Many of us look forward to the day when the “utility” company is a wind-powered farm somewhere on a sunny hilltop, rather than a few smoke spewing coal plants in the middle of America. While that day is actually getting closer and closer, the need for a new workforce is also becoming imperative.

The jobs of the future, particularly where renewable energy is concerned, will be as diverse as the careers available today. There is going to be a large number of well-trained engineers required, there will also be the need for everyone from clerks and managers to field workers who will understand exactly how all of the new technologies will operate.

Renewable resources include sun, water, wind and even Biofuels and this translates to an incredibly diverse range of educational backgrounds and disciplines. While many of the traditional technologies, such as home wiring, will not be radically different. The approach to ensuring that each home’s solar, wind or thermal configuration will be incredibly different from today’s electricians and HVAC careers.

Of course the home application of the renewable energies is not the only area where new careers and jobs will occur. Consider that there will be all kinds of line workers and those who must serve in the same capacity as today’s utility workers. This will also have to become a group with some engineering and background knowledge in the systems they are supporting.

This also means that such areas as wastewater management and even trash collecting will change as well. Clearly tomorrow’s workforce is in for many educational challenges, especially as the transition from many of the current systems is going to occur within the next few decades.

Clearly, every segment of industry is going to see some widespread change as well. Imagine the impact on the farming and agricultural communities, manufacturing sectors and even the health industry when alternative energy begins to be used widely. Many modern materials will become outdated and many forms of equipment will have to accommodate new forms of energy or operational techniques. Solar powered computers, tractors, solar fountains and machinery will radically alter the face of business and commerce.

All of this translates into millions of new opportunities for those interested in the technologies and possibilities of alternative energies. Today is the time and place to begin learning about them, and parents and teachers should be making huge efforts to introduce students to their future world as this will help us all get there faster.

"Solar living", "green" houses, "smart" appliances, "going green" – these aren't just "the day's" catchwords; these are all phrases used to describe a way of life. In the past decade or so however, they've also come to describe a way of working.

If you're new in the field and looking for a career, or if you have a career but you'd like to increase your knowledge and skills base, you're in luck. Your position doesn't have to be high technology, like a PV Project Engineer. Thanks to the new federal incentives for solar energy, more than 440,000 jobs for installation and manufacturing will be opening up within the solar industry.

Even without the federal incentives, the need for people with solar training grows each year. Environmental groups argue against carbon pollution; homeowners looking for lower energy costs pay roofers with solar training to replace their old asphalt tiles with solar panels and PV arrays; companies and individuals who use solar energy receive tax credits. As the demand for products from the solar industry rise, so does the need for those who can develop, manufacture and install those products.

This remains true even through the current economic crisis; having a green job ensures job security in a shaky economic climate. Billions of dollars are being spent on solar photovoltaic cell manufacturing, installation and maintenance, green building and any number of energy efficient and sustainable energy methods. According to Greenpeace and the Worldwatch Institute, green jobs may be one of the keys to economic stabilization.

People in the construction industry, such as general contractors, are some of those that could take advantage of solar courses and certification. Most solar training for general contractors isn't so much learning about new things, as learning a new way to do old things. For instance, a trained general contractor will ensure that new buildings meet the high performance standards necessary to receive Green certification.

In addition, retrofitting old buildings to become energy efficient adds jobs for solar trained workers, engineers, electricians and others. Retrofitting may actually turn into a more lucrative position than building, as there are more non-compliant buildings than there are Green certified buildings.

The lack of workers with solar training isn't confined to one area:

Connecticut just created a $9 million fund for investments in starting companies focused on clean technology jobs.

Hawaii plans to stop using fossil fuels within the next ten years, moving to renewable, sustainable energy. An agreement to allow customers with solar panels to sell power back to the Hawaiian Electric Company was signed in November of this year, though not brought into law.

In Oregon, over 1,700 solar jobs are either available or opening since Gov. Ted Kulongoski began luring renewable energy jobs to the state.

Everywhere across America and the globe, solar jobs are opening up and people with solar education are needed. If you don't have a field yet, or would like to expand your field, look into solar training. The opportunities are endless!

Looking for a Green job means you might have to think outside the box. Work skills and personal goals can make a big difference in what direction you go. Are you just looking for a green job or is your goal to make a difference at the grass roots level and make your community a more sustainable environment?

If you’re just looking for a job there are some great green job search engines at your disposal.

Here are just a few to check out:

www.greenjobs.com

www.greenjobs.net

www.sustainablebusiness.com

http://jobs.treehugger.com/

If a cookie cutter job is not your cup of tea then you might want to look outside the box to find your income. If you have a green thumb one of the biggest underground movements is urban faming. This can be done on rooftops, backyards and vacant city lots. Grow your organic produce and sell it to local restaurants and stores. You can see some examples of this at: http://greenmyplants.com/roof-top-gardening-making-the-world-a-better-place/

Along with urban farming there are huge opportunities in providing local solar and wind power consulting and installation. Get involved in your communities green movement or start one if there’s no group. Educate yourself in everything green and become the local go-to person for the rest of the community.

Another great opportunity is working from home and generating your income from your computer. There are many ways you can do this from starting you own eBay store to affiliate marketing. This is only recommended if your comfortable with computers and the internet.

We’re going into a new era of work, living and environment so the sky’s the limit. Be creative and do what you love.
